In the run-up to the 2023 African Cup of Nations (CAN), C\u00f4te d'Ivoire has introduced a express visa<\/strong> designed to facilitate the entry of foreign fans into the country. Although this initiative aims to simplify procedures for the expected influx of 1.5 million visitors, particularly from neighbouring countries such as Mali and Burkina Faso, it has been criticised for its late launch and the constraints it imposes. The terms and conditions of the semi-electronic visa<\/strong> were unveiled at the last minute, leaving travellers struggling to obtain the necessary documents under tight deadlines.<\/p>\n\n

While the African Cup of Nations<\/strong> With the 2023 African Cup of Nations (CAN) looming on the horizon, C\u00f4te d'Ivoire has announced the introduction of an 'express' e-Visa to facilitate the arrival of foreign media. However, this initiative, while promising, raises questions about its late implementation and real effectiveness. Demand is expected to be massive, with up to 1.5 million<\/strong> visitors expected. Faced with the expected influx of supporters, mainly from neighbouring countries, the Consulate General of C\u00f4te d'Ivoire in Paris has decided to set up a special visa<\/strong> for football fans who want to experience the CAN 2023 first-hand. Countries such as Mali<\/strong>the Burkina Faso<\/strong>the Guinea<\/strong> and the Ghana<\/strong> are particularly concerned by this visa, which is intended to be quick and accessible. However, the fact that this measure comes just as the tournament begins in a few days' time raises the question of its effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n

The semi-electronic visa application procedure<\/h2>\n\n

To benefit from this fast-track treatment, supporters must follow a specific procedure. First of all, they are advised to visit online platforms such as the SNEDAI<\/strong> or visa agencies, where they can apply for a traditional e-Visa. Despite the introduction of this 'express' visa, there are a number of criticisms. The application procedure does not appear to make the process any easier, since the need to travel to Paris for the appointment remains. What's more, the total cost of this procedure may turn out to be as high as waiting for the classic e-Visa, which is already available. This raises questions about the effectiveness of this initiative, which could be seen as a revenue-generating manoeuvre at the expense of simplicity for fans.<\/p>\n\n

The launch of this visa is part of a wider strategy on the part of the Ivorian government, which aims to boost its international image by hosting the CAN.
