The Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa is being implemented so that Abidjan airport is the only one eligible. The visa will therefore be validated at this airport, which handles a large number of passengers every year.

2011 was a black year for the whole of Côte d'Ivoire, but also for its main airport in Abidjan. Abidjan's Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport recorded its lowest traffic figures ever that year. Fortunately, a few years later, the main point of entry to Côte d'Ivoire by air was able to turn things around.

From 646,942 passengers recorded in 2011, the airport has grown to a total of 2,271,700 passengers, an increase of more than 350 %. These figures make Abidjan's Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport one of the most dynamic in the West African sub-region. Forecasts even predict that annual traffic will reach 5 million passengers in the coming years.

A look at the figures for the regions of origin of checked-in passengers reveals a real diversity. International passengers checked in came from Africa, the Americas and Europe.

The African continent saw the highest number of its nationals transiting through this airport. The ECOWAS zone alone accounted for 39.4 % of recorded travellers, compared with 21.7 % for the rest of Africa. Europe accounted for 28.4 % thanks to regular travel by French nationals, while America barely exceeded the figure of one per cent.

These figures are confirmed by the statistics on aircraft movements recorded. The ECOWAS zone is still in the lead, followed by France, the rest of Europe and North America. However, the figures for arrivals and departures are more or less the same: 49.4 % for arrivals compared with 50.6 % for departures.
